    U.S.Food and Drug Administration referred to as FDA.FDA is the implementing agency established in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Public Health Service (PHS) by the U.S.government.
    As a scientific authority, the role of FDA is to ensure the safety of U.S.national production or importation of food, cosmetics, drugs, biologics, medical devices and radiation products, which was the fist federal agencies of the main functions of protecting the consumers.The institution is closely related to the lives of every American citizen.In the international arena, FDA has been recognized as the world's largest food and drug regulatory agencies.Many other countries are seeking and receiving the FDA's help to promote and monitor the safety of their own products.
    Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in charge of: food, medicine (including veterinary), medical devices, food additives, cosmetics, animal feed and drug, wine and drink of less than 7%alcohol content and supervision and inspection of electronic products; also includes cosmetics, radioactive products, combination products and personal healthy and safety-related electronics and medical products.The tests, inspections and certifications of products, the ionizing and non-ionizing radiation generated in process of use or consumption will affect human health and safety.According to the regulations, these products must be approved safety through FDA tests before allowed on market.FDA is authorized to inspect the manufacturer and prosecute the offenders.According to the range of different products under the supervision, it can be divided into the following supervision organizations:
    1.Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN)
    The center is the sector of FDA of largest workload.It is responsible for food safety except the meat, poultry and eggs under the jurisdiction of U.S Agriculture Department across the county.CFSAN is committed to reduce foodborne illness and promote food safety.In the meanwhile, promote a variety of schemes, such as the promotion and implementation of the HACCP plan.The center's function include: ensuring the security of food additives and pigment; guaranteeing the safety of food and ingredients developed through biotechnology; responsible for the supervision activities of the proper identification of food (such as ingredients, nutrition and health claims) and cosmetics, formulating corresponding policies and regulations to manage dietary supplements, infant food formula and medical food; ensuring the safety of cosmetic ingredients and products and correct identification; monitoring and regulating the aftermarket behavior of food industry; expanding education and behavior; local state and government cooperation projects, coordination of international food standards and safety.
