General Situation and Suggestions of Bamboo Industry in China(2009/10/25)
China is the country of richest bamboo resource in the world, bamboo species, plantation area, and reserve volume ranking first in the world, known as the "bamboo kingdom." For nearly 20 years, Chinese bamboo industry has seen rapid developed, and formed a new industry of resource cultivation, processing and utilization, to exportation, along with flowers, forest cultivation, forest tourism, forest food industry become four sunrise industry of Chinese Forestry Development. While the harmonious development between man and nature, Chinese bamboo industry is booming.
Resources and Utilizations of Chinese Bamboo
Bamboo, as an evergreen (with a few fall leaves during the dry season) shallow-rooted plant, is an important forest resource. There are more than 70 genera and 1200 species of bamboo in the world. Bamboo mainly distributed in tropical and subtropical regions, while a small number of species are found in temperate and cold zone. In terms of geographic, distribution of bamboo area can be divided into the Asia-Pacific, the Americas and the Africa three major bamboo distribution areas. There is about 2200 million mu of bamboo with a production volume of bamboo material around 15,000,000-20,000,000 ton per year globally.
China is the world's leading bamboo producing countries, the sixth national forest resources inventory statistics shows that China has 4.8426 million area of bamboo currently, increased of 631.800 than the results of the fifth inventory, an average annual increase of 126,000, of which the higher economic use value Mao bamboo forest area is about 2.5 million, accounting for 90% of the total of the world. Chinese bamboo forest area made up for about 0.5% of the national surface area, accounting for about 28% of the national forest area, annually cut about 500 million of Moso bamboo and more than 300 million of various types of miscellaneous bamboo, equivalent to more than 10 million timber. In addition, Chinese bamboo resources are very abundant with nearly 35 genera and 400 species of account for about 1 / 3 of the world bamboo resources. Among these bamboo, some are planted for bamboo timber and others for bamboo shoots, and they are also widely distributed in the 27 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions, except Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang and concentrated in Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Anhui, Hubei, Fujian, Guangdong as well as the western region of Guangxi, Guizhou, Sichuan, Chongqing and Yunnan provinces.
Since ancient times, bamboo as an important natural resource has a wide range of applications in people's daily life, the use of bamboo can be traced back as early as the Neolithic. With the continuous improvement of bamboo processing technology, new products of bamboo as raw material emerge in an endless stream. The industrialization use of the bamboo have made bamboo no longer a "poor man's timber", and bamboo products have been known as the luxury items.
Chemical utilization of bamboo has become an effective way to develop high value-added bamboo products. Now the use of bamboo has broken the traditional utilization areas, and is widely used in the construction industry, paper industry, light industry, furniture industry.
