   For sure. He said two sweet things to me, and that was it. It has been a pleasure to be near Charley is beautiful work and be reminded of him all the time and celebrate this astonishing amount of work. He is a real master.A lot of people know Charley for his bird imagery. I tried to turn a corner from the obvious route. So we thought we would celebrate imagery people have not seen.
   How did the Fishs Eddy project come about? hey approached me about doing a collection. Being a fan of them, I said I would be happy to do something but I felt more interested in doing something with Charley. I know his form and aesthetic, and what not to do. It’s not a matter of just sticking stuff on stuff — all of these images have been slightly redone from the original artwork. He had spatial qualities: almost everything was sized similarly; an elephant was the same size as a bug. There are rules not intuitive to anyone that you have to stick with to make Charley look like Charley.
   Did you have carte blanche with the images? I do have carte blanche to choose the images, but I take it seriously. I felt ridiculously protective of him, and of them.The pieces seem to radiate happiness. They can be sweet without being cloying or any of the pinkness that comes with sweet. You’d have to be a bit of an inert person not to respond to them.
   Will you use them? Of course! I love Charley’s work so much. I have a nice collection of paintings and a ton of the silkscreen, so the idea of having an olive off of something Charley is pretty great. I’m really crazy about the O. J. glasses, too. You made a big difference in this man’s life. He made a big difference in mine. I don’t think charley understood deep down the genius he was. He had a humility that wouldn’t allow him to fully understand the skill behind everything he did. I barreled my way into his life, like it or not. Thankfully, he did.
